School Confetti
Background
SOAB introduced the Schoolzone Concept in Netherlands. Thanks to the Schoolzone, with its special road signs and road marks, a solid base has been laid for deminishing the speed of motorists and augmenting their attention level. A lot of school locations benefit from the improvement of the (instinctive) traffic safety around the school. This improvement can be made by physical measures, like Schoolzone, but it can be still better!
* Program of Demands
* SOAB has developed the School Confetti Concept in order to prevent proliferation of School zones with a wrong and non-integral approach. A part of the national starting point ‘Safety Concious Planning’ is a good strive for uniformity.
* The approach is based on collaboration and places the responsibility for its succes on all partners. A program of demands (POD) has been formulated for purpose of the physical organization of the school’s environment.
School Confetti is custom-made
Once a location has been tested in view of the POD, an implementing plan can be made, with the help of the set of instruments as mentioned in the POD. This plan is made together with the community, the school and the police and, if desired, the people living in the neighbourhood.
Measurements are proposed in four different areas:
- Infrastructure
- Environmental planning and organization
- Education, communication and information
- Mobility, behaviouir and maintenance
It is determined collectively which measures are desirable in the different areas. Then follows the agreement on which party will carry out which measure.
* The agreements are recorded in a cooperation agreement, which will be signed in a festive manner.
School Confetti in practise
* SOAB has introduced the Schoolzone an the School Confetti Concept in Purmerend and Zevenaar (Netherlands). The results are very positive. A profound evaluation has been made in Purmerend. This study guides to the realization of more Schoolzones with the School Confetti Concept.

o As a creative consultancy acengy SOAB already has several interesting concepts under its belt, in the field of traffic als well as housing.
