SOAB International
Ineke Spapé invited speaker at Velo-Mondial in Cape Town (S.A.)
Ineke Spapé, one of SOAB’s managing directors, has held a presentation on the International Convention Velo Mondial, which has taken place from March 5th till March 10th in Cape Town (South Africa), on the subject: “Space for Kids”.
She has gone into the difficulties that children experience on their way to school and in their neighbourhoods. She also has explained several instruments and solutions.
On this two-yearly convention, 35 countries have taken part. Both First and Third World countries tackled the theme: “Towards Prosperity”.
For many countries a more frequent and improved usage of the bicycle is of great value. In Western countries the bicycle can be a good alternative in car-clogged cities; in many non-Western countries it is a cheap and practical way of transport for people and goods.
At this convention there was a lot of attention for the environment-friendliness of the bicycle, its health issues and the opportunities the bicycle offers people for improving their economical situation.
In Cape Town, SOAB has already developed the project: “Kids Safer to School”(KISS), by order of I-ce. In a playful way this project aims at a child-safe school route in a context where the automobile dominates.
I-ce (Interface for Cycling Expertise) is a Dutch not- for-profit organisation that deploys bicycle experts like Ineke Spapé in projects all over the world.
