SOAB, advisor for housing and housing conditions, has built an important name in the Netherlands when it concerns counselling in the area of mobility in general and alternative mobility in particular.
Traffic congestion and the environmental effect of it force us to think on lesser and more conscious usage of the automobile. That is only attainable when acceptable alternatives are available, which will cost the traveller less time, effort and money.
More usage of the bicycle in the Netherlands is a logical option. Good cycle routes, safe and comfortable, safe storage possibilities and quick connections are necessary.
SOAB’s primary target is the safety of vulnerable traffic participants. Besides the elderly, those are especially children. In the busy city centres they have difficulties maintaining themselves in traffic.
SOAB has developed concepts which will allow children to find their way in the streets more securely and which will make the school surroundings safer.
The concepts: “Kid Grid” and “School Confetti” are applicable in all cities around the world.

In Cape Town (S.A.) the project “Kids Safer to School” has been developed. It is based on the basic principles of Kid Grid.
Miss Ir. Ineke Spapé will be speaking on several international conventions as an acknowledged specialist in this area.
On the international Velo Mondial Conference in Cape Town (S.A.) from March 5th to March 10th, 2006, she was the spokeswoman of one the plenary sessions on the subject of:”Safety-the road tot safe and comfortable non-motorised transport”.
